Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum Addition
The Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum is meant to showcase the natural history of the mountain in an educational and exciting way. The program as it exists is welcoming daily, an abundance of visitors and their interest in this mission. For this reason, the addition to the existing building will focus on supporting the educational components of the program through a transitional relationship with the natural elements both interior and exterior of the site.
The proposed addition seeks to transition visitors through an elongated exhibit which serves a dual purpose as both lobby and learning space. Visitors will experience all of the things that nature has to offer as they make their way from the interior historical and interactive displays, to the multi-use classroom in the cloud, and to the outdoor education area with a covered porch, picnic shelter and natural terraced seating.
